Relationships are an important part of our lives. Positive relationships with friends, family, classmates and others can help us feel supported, valued and connected.
At times, relationships can also be challenging. Friendships can change, disagreements can happen and you may sometimes feel unsure about how to deal with a particular situation. This page brings together useful information, advice and support to help you build healthy relationships and manage challenges when they arise.
Healthy relationships are built on respect, trust, communication and boundaries. Useful resources on this page can help you with:
Friendships – building positive friendships and dealing with disagreements or changes.
Family relationships – understanding and managing challenges at home.
Communication – expressing your thoughts and feelings and listening to others.
Respect and boundaries – understanding your own boundaries and respecting those of others.
Peer pressure – dealing with pressure from friends or other people.
Conflict and disagreements – finding positive ways to manage difficult situations.
Bullying and peer relationships – recognising bullying and knowing where to find help.
Online relationships – staying safe and respectful when communicating online and through social media.
Healthy and unhealthy relationships – recognising behaviours that help or harm relationships.
Seeking support – knowing when and how to ask for help.
You should always feel safe and respected in your relationships. If someone is making you feel uncomfortable, pressured, frightened or unsafe, you do not have to deal with it alone.
Talk to someone you trust, such as a parent or carer, teacher, tutor, pastoral staff member or another trusted adult. They can listen and help you decide what to do next.
Remember: asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Everyone deserves to have relationships where they feel safe, respected and valued.
